Strategic Resources Forum

The Strategic Resources Forum facilitates an interface between Eskom, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, government departments such as Water Affairs, and local business, with respect to water, effluent and electricity. The forum meets monthly and PERCCI regularly involves its chair and members in relevant issues. The focus in 2010 has predominantly been on water.

The Water Working Group, a sub committee - chaired by Angus Clark - has facilitated presentations by large water users to the municipality, in view of imminent water restrictions.  A motivation, for leniency for those companies that use large volumes of water either in the production process or in the product itself, was taken to Council and successful.

PERCCI with the assistance of the Strategic Resources Forum, put forward objections to proposed regulations under the Energy Conservation Scheme.  There are punitive tariffs within these regulations should industry not meet the required criteria of 10% reduction in energy consumption.  For the commercial sector the target is a 20% reduction.  For this reason the forum seeks feedback from Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality regarding its load profile as well as progress by SEEC t- Sustainable Energy Efficiency Centre - o assist industry.   SEEC's role is to educate industry on the required 10% saving on energy consumption.

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has, as a result of an intervention by PERCCI on behalf of the forum, established a load-shedding or outage notification system whereby industry is advised of the situation by SMS .

Angus Clark from General Motors South Africa, chairs this forum.
