Formed in 2008 to provide strategic leadership on skills development in the metro, in the context of commerce and industry; and to facilitate cooperation amongst business, education, government and other relevant stakeholders. The task team has:

• developed its terms of reference,
• formalized its relationship with the metro's HR Development forum,
• begun work on identifying priority skills development areas for intervention in order to support the metro's growth and development, and
• addressed the issue of World Cup volunteers and the impact on business.

The task team has identified building of the relationship with FET colleges and higher education institutions, and coordination and funding of maths and science development projects, as priority areas.

The task team is chaired by Charles du Toit (Eveready) and consists of HR practitioners in several companies and parastatals, and representatives of the metro, Coega Development Corporation, and education and training institutions.
